Berry's Wedding Photography Interview

By Interviewer at 01/15/09 07:39

Georgia, Weddings: Romeo and Juliet (Hill Manor-Kennesaw)

Name of your website?

Berry's Wedding Photography

Your name?

Kenneth W. Berry

Your Location (city, etc)

Lawrenceville (Offices in Gwinnett County and South Georgia)

Please give us a short summary of your website?

It contains Wedding Photography with images taken from Weddings done in Metro Atlanta, Duluth, Conyers, Decatur, Jacksonville, Chicago, College Park, Jonesboro, Fayetteville, Mableton, Orlando, Opelika Alabama, Dallas Texas, Tallahassee Florida, Swainsboro, Tinley Park Illinois, and other locations. It also contains personal testimonials from various brides that expressed their satisfaction and comments about me as a professional photographer and also their wedding experience.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I wanted to have a vehicle that represented my visions and a collage of Wedding Images that showcased a wide variety of moments of excitement on the bride's most special day of her life. I also wanted to have the means for brides all over the USA in all (50) states in addition to brides across the world that were either having a destination wedding here in USA, or the brides or grooms that were stationed overseas in the military, to have a place they could go online and view in their own relaxed environment a broad sample of my work. In addition since I am a Professional Nationwide Photographer, I knew it was mandatory that I had to have a very good wide variety of images to display to all potential clients online since I usually meet over 95% of the brides on the day before the wedding.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My first website was launched over (6) or (7) years ago by my website designer who added my photo pages onto his website domain. It gave me a separate link that I could direct brides to so they could view a small sample of my work over the internet. Thanks to technology, I have advanced since that time and will be implementing even more changes on the internet at a future date.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

It was really simple. My last name is Berry and my main area of expertise is in Wedding Photography so it was easy to put the two names together which became: Berry's Wedding Photography.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

I have been told by more than a few brides over the years that my website is very diverse. It has Blacks, Whites, Asians, and Hispanics on display. I have also been told by quite a few brides that my style of posing is different and quite unique. I personally believe in photographing with a mixture of styles, both traditional, and unobtrusive, and on occasions I like to create poses never seen before anywhere. I literally will create some of them on the spot in the middle of an on-location portrait session or in the middle of the Formals, or even during the relaxed period at the reception I will occasionally think of something unique I may want to create using the bride and groom as a couple or as individuals.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My eventual goal is to expand my business into a Huge One-Stop Diversified Comglomerate, not only dealing with just Weddings but also other levels of Event Planning with the Newly Hired staff on hand that will be put in place to assist in reaching an even larger audience. I also would like to expand my National connections and take the entire operation Nationwide with additional connections all across the globe. After all, the brides in Paris, London, China, and other countries fall in love too, and they want beautiful portraiture of their wedding day captured from an American point of view. And like many other budding entrepreneurs, I also would eventually like to invest in residential real estate in addition to Commercial Real Estate when the necessary funds and proper personnel are in place to make it a reality. At some point, I will be putting the cameras down and managing the empire at a distance.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

That is a question I can't give a direct answer to because Targeted Advertising can be so unpredictable. I have spent thousands and I have lost thousands. I have spent hundreds of dollars and I have lost hundreds of dollars that were never recuperated. All in all I would say God has blessed me with something much more precious than money or wealth and that is a good heart and compassion for the less fortunate. It is very hard to be happy when there are millions of people that are much worse off than you are. So for that reason I accepted the fact a long time ago that no matter how much money I ever would make in my life, my happiness would be permanently temporary.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

As far as my Wedding Photography business is concerned, the extra capital would accelerate my ability to make things happen much more quickly because more funds placed in the right hands equals much more progress. Limited funds force a person to have to improvise more, whereas unlimited funds in the right hands allows one to not be limited at all but enables them to elevate their game to the highest level attainable.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes I would. "Success breeds Success". Competent people that become successful quickly always surround themselves with even more competent, talented people that help them to manage their rapid growth. I would be no exception to that rule if my business suddenly took off like a rocket. I would welcome the challenge and not be overwhelmed by it at all.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Everyone was mad as hell about the high gas prices. Now they have dropped down recently like a hot potato. The high cost of gas bothered everyone including me because it changed the dynamics of everything directly and indirectly related to it. In many ways the extremely high gas prices were a major contributing factor to our economy going into a full blown recession. I have accepted the higher costs of processing professional film as it is a temporary issue since I have accepted the fact that I will be moving over to Digital at a later date. It is just a question of when. But in a nutshell I would have to call the original high gas prices a headache.

What has been your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge has been having to sift through different advertising mediums to try to find the right one that can truly deliver on their promises.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I would say a combination of things. I have secured some of the wedding events as a result of my ad listings in various online Wedding Directories. I am still in the process of evaluating different online companies as we speak.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

My website designer handles the meat and potatoes of the website but I do have a lot of input into what the finished product looks like, as I currently handle Marketing and Promotions for both of our sites right now, with his site being out of the state.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

We will keep the site running as long as we are in the business. In the event the business gets so good in the future that a healthy buyer comes along that wants to acquire it, then I am sure that person would want to capitalize on the existing linkage that has already formed over the internet with the website as it is now.

How long have you been a photographer?

I have over (15) years of experience and am very devoted to the bride and groom enjoying their wedding and reception in a relaxed atmosphere. CLICK HERE TO VISIT WEBSITE!
