Please give us a short summary of your website?

What inspired you to launch your own website?
I have so much experience, in two different countries, and I decided it was time to put it to good use! I have a passion for what I do, and I want to expand my client base.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I launched in October of 2006. It is the website you see now online, www.alterationsbyetelka.com.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted to keep it simple and yet still be unique. Etelka is my name from Europe, so I chose to use that in my website name.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
I offer last minute alterations on almost any garment, which is hard to come by in most alteration shops. I have competitive prices, and usually I add a personal touch to my work, just because.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
At this moment, I am taking things one month at a time. I would like to see if I get to the point where I can work from home full time. That would be my ideal outcome.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I've planned for almost any situation, financially, so I'm able to offset any unplanned circumstances that arise. I'm doing quite well so far.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I wouldn't really change anything, at this point. I'm happy where I am at!
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Certainly! I've got part time help as it is, so if I need to boost that up to full time, then we're all ready!
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
A few changes to the sponsored links I have, but those things were easily fixed.
What has been your biggest challenge?
I am not really sure I've had to deal with any real big challenges, to be honest. I suppose just being patient with the whole process of beginning a website was the hardest part for me. Nothing happens overnight, obviously.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I would have to say word of mouth, and my portfolio. Most of my clients get to see my portfolio of work and the letters of recommendation. But word of mouth will always be the most powerful tool of advertising.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I expected an immediate response from day one of launching, and I learned in time that it doesn't work quite so quickly. It's a lot of work to optimize your website and to get your name out there in a positive way.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I've had it for almost two years now, and I plan to keep it up as long as people will keep using it!
