Please give us a short summary of your website?
A wedding guide for the Toronto Area Wedding. Vendors can list for free in our vendor directory complete with description, pictures and testimonials. Articles, Polls and a forum help brides and grooms as well.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I got married in October 2008 and realized there was no single place where i could find vendors in the Toronto Area. All the websites I found had the same vendors - since these sites required vendors to pay. I thought that there should be a place where all were listed, not just the ones that had money.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I did a university forum website in university - ranking university's by student opinion, rather than the MacLean's Magazine equivalent.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
My wife came up with it in 2 seconds.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
Its free to vendors. Its easy to use - not plastered with blinking ads. The equivalent websites out there have so many blinking ads.. we're in the business of helping brides and grooms out there - not selling ads.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Its a pet project for myself and my wife. We'll hold on to it and see where it goes.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I love doing it, so even if it doesn't get off the ground, I had fun doing it.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I wouldn't change it - I like the way it is! The foundation we build is great.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I believe so. Its not so hard managing the site.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Nothing...
What has been your biggest challenge?
Convincing myself to actually start coding and researching on SEO and GoogleRank!
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Word of mouth. Vendors have been very receptive to the free listing. The brides and grooms will definitely come after we build a good foundation.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
nope.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Its only been up for a week!
