When the flowers have faded, the dress is packed away and the cake has been eaten - you will look back at your wedding photographs to bring back memories from what should have been one of the best days of your life. When our parents' were married the pictures were often stiff and very formal. Yes, we had nice pictures set in nice locations, but they did not convey the emotion of the day nor convey many of the memories - only a few chosen scenes, and all too many were very posed.
Many people remark that the best pictures were the ones taken by friends or family that just caught the moment. Here are a few from our recent weddings: Contemporary Wedding Photography | Recent Weddings
It is not uncommon for people to have budget constraints when they get married - it is a large expense - and the thought of paying a large amount for still and posed photographs is often something that gets pushed to one-side. However, many people then regret the fact that they were not able to have nice photographs at their wedding, especially some photographs that captured the day in a special and contemporary way.
Over the past few years this has started to change. There is a growing demand - and provision of contemporary wedding photography. This is a mixture of some formal and informal photographs. Typically the photographer or photographers are with you during the whole day, often working in the background, capturing events as they happen.
There are many such photographers like this, and our site is one of many. You can see our site at Contemporary Wedding Photography | We Are PureLight
The advent of digital imaging means the technology allows photographs to be presented in many ways, with on-line viewing and beautiful albums. The days of a gold leaf album filled with many family poses, and just one picture per page, are on the way out, thankfully. There is a large range of beautiful and contemporary wedding albums, and the page layouts are simply stunning - a treasure to keep for many years.
But how can you tell a contemporary wedding photographer from a traditional one? What should you look for and how can you know when you've found one? Well, they should have a great and informative website. That costs money and time and will tell you how serious they are about their job. After all, they may be doing this as a hobby, but few people will spend the expense and time creating a great website just if this is a hobby, so that is test No 1.
The second key test is to look through their images and preferably images from the same wedding. This will tell you the style of pictures they take, rather than a selection of the best from many weddings.
The third key test is information and prices. Do they say the right things - do they sound like people you would want at your wedding, and are they charging a sensible amount? You know what they say about free lunches, and this also applies to wedding photography. Buyer beware!
